Alexa Blueprints Series
Alexa Blueprints for your home
Amazon recently launched what is called Alexa Blueprints. In a nutshell, Alexa lets anyone create their own custom Alexa Skill with Alexa Blueprints. I’ll be doing a full series on how to create different types of blueprints for your home over the next few weeks, but thought a mention was pertinent here as blueprints have immediate impact for older adults, families, home care, guests and more. It is truly an exciting time as Alexa allows more and more personalization.
Refresher: Amazon’s Alexa is the voice-activated, interactive AI, or personal voice assistant that allows people to speak to their Alexa-enabled devices, like the Amazon Echo. Alexa comes with many capabilities, from playing music to listening to the news. Amazon Alexa is one of the more capable voice assistants in the market, in large part do to the “Skills” that increase the capabilities of Alexa straight out of the box. Alexa Skills are apps that give Alexa even more abilities to interact with you, just like a mobile app does on your smart phone.
Why are Alexa Blueprints important?
Blueprints offer a new way for any Alexa owner to create their own customized Alexa skills without needing to know how to code – in essence creating your own voice apps. General examples may be a trivia game or teaching Alexa to respond to questions with answers you design – like “Who’s the best Pop in the world?”. There are over 20 templates to start creating!
You can also create a skill that has helpful information for an elder parent, a care companion, visitors and more – triggered by a command you choose, such as:
“Alexa, open House Questions” – “Alexa, what is the garage code?”
Alexa Skill Blueprints offer a new way to teach Alexa personalized skills just for you and your family. Your newly created blueprint will be available on all devices associated with your account, but not for the public or publication in the Alexa Skills catalog.
We will walk, step-by-step, through creating a blueprint – so stay tuned!
